Summer Agastache

This is an absolute must for any pollinator garden attracting hummingbirds, butterflies, and bumblebees. As an added bonus it is generally not appealing to deer. Agastache foeniculum grows in clumps reaching 2’ to 4’ high and spreading 18” to 3’. Its tubular, lavender flowers form spikes up to 6” in length that typically bloom from June to September. It likes full sun, well-drained soil, and once established handles dry conditions well. It requires minimal maintenance and typically blooms in the first year. Deadhead spent flowers for continuous blooms. The licorice-scented leaves can be made into a tea or added sparingly in salads for an extra punch of flavor.
